The town is looking to add a part-time economic development specialist to its staff.
In a memo to the Town Council Town Manager Ken Buchanan said he has interviewed four highly qualified candidates from 11 applications and is ready to make an offer.
The council needs to adopt a resolution to add the position since a similar position had been eliminated from the town’s organizational chart of authorized positions and job descriptions.

Council to consider economic development position

The town is looking to add a part-time economic development specialist to its staff.
In a memo to the Town Council Town Manager Ken Buchanan said he has interviewed four highly qualified candidates from 11 applications and is ready to make an offer.
The council needs to adopt a resolution to add the position since a similar position had been eliminated from the town’s organizational chart of authorized positions and job descriptions.
After Lori Gary resigned to take a job with a different city, the town never replaced her with another economic development staff member.
Economic development remains a top priority for council after setting goals for the current fiscal year.
The town also has to examine its future role in tourism promotion as well since the Chamber of Commerce is turning back that job to the town as of Jan. 1.
The council meets Thursday, Dec. 5, at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers.
Culvert coming?
The council also will consider an inter- governmental agreement with the Maricopa County Flood Control District for improvements in Ashbrook Wash.
The agreement would have the town partner with MCFCD in design work for Ashbrook Wash improvements between Bayfield Drive and Del Cambre Ave.
This includes work at the Saguaro Boulevard crossing.
An evaluation of improvements made to the Golden Eagle Park detention dam in 2000 allows for higher peak flow in the wash downstream from the dam, according to a staff report.
A FCD field survey determined there are 13 condo units at risk for potential flooding during a 100-year storm event.
A major part of the proposed work is to reconstruct the roadway crossings, replacing corrugated steel pipe with larger concrete box culverts at Bayfield and Saguaro.
The projected cost for this initial design phase is $150,000 with the town and FCD splitting costs 50/50, or $75,000 each. A separate IGA will be considered for the construction phase.
Other items
Staff will provide the council with an update on progress in cleaning up a gasoline fuel spill Nov. 17 at Saguaro and Shea boulevards.
The town has received recommendations from both the state ADEQ and a private consultant regarding the remediation of the spill.
Staff reports the fuel transport company that owns the trailer involved in the accident is cooperating with the town requests and has hired a hazardous materials clean-up specialist to do the work.
The council will review the Arizona League of Cities and Towns legislative agenda for the 2014 session and discuss any direction for priorities regarding the proposals.
