The Town Council will consider a $400,000 bid for the construction of an addition onto Fire Station 1 on Palisades Boulevard.

The council meets Thursday and will consider the bid from Vertical Build, LLC for $390,953, the lowest of nine bids received.

Vertical Build provided a base bid of $380,953 and a reduced owner’s allowance of $10,000.

The bid is within the $420,000 budgeted for the project in the CIP budget for 2012-13.

Vertical Build, LLC is a Scottsdale company specializing in non-residential construction. Arrington Watkins is the architect for the project.

The planned addition is approximately 1,400-square-feet and is to serve as a crew bunk room on the north side of the existing equipment bays.

Fire officials say they need to better accommodate female firefighters and the ambulance crew, which is currently housed in the old mobile home behind the fire station.

The project includes the removal of the mobile home with that space being converted to parking.

A communications tower at the fire station is to be relocated by Rural/Metro prior to the start of the construction on the addition.

The council meets Thursday, Aug. 15, at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The session is open to the public.
