The possible Community Garden will be a topic of discussion at this week’s Town Council meeting, set to take place tomorrow evening, April 21, in Council Chambers.

Following the 5 p.m. executive session, the regular meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. The regular meeting is open to the public.

Resident Dr. Iyoti Patel recently met with Mayor Linda Kavanagh, Town Manager Grady Miller and Community Services Director Mark Mayer to discuss the possibility of establishing a Community Garden in the Town’s Civic Complex adjacent to the library.

It was explained that the site is ideal for such a garden because it is currently unused, but would be adjacent to existing parking with access to nearby water and electricity.

Since then, the Community Garden group has been accepted under the umbrella of the Fountain Hills Cultural and Civic Association and is now seeking to enter into a lease agreement with the town for $1 per year, renewable annually to utilize the site.

Dr. Patel will be in attendance at tomorrow night’s meeting and will address the Council concerning the Community Garden, as well as answer questions from Council members.

If agreeable, the Council may request staff to work with the Town Attorney in order to develop a lease for the land.

The Council will also hear from SPAC Chair Dana Saar at tomorrow night’s meeting regarding the Vision Fountain Hills Survey, which is currently planned for a community workshop next month.

Tomorrow night’s meeting will also host a couple of special recognitions, including the high school girls soccer team, winners of the 2015-16 Division III state championship, and MCSO School Resource Officer Jill Ochsner, who has been working closely with the Fountain Hills Coalition. Ochsner’s recognition will be part of a presentation from Coalition Director Shelly Mowrey, discussing the group’s recent accomplishments and findings from a recent focus group session.
