The Town Council will begin 2016 with consideration of a resolution that would establish a new Sister Cities Advisory Commission for the Town of Fountain Hills.
According to Town Manager Grady Miller the proposed commission would take over the responsibilities of the existing Sister Cities Corporation.
“This is a common practice of cities and towns throughout the country to ensure the continuity and viability of its Sister City relationships,” Miller said.

Fountain Hills has four Sister City relationships. The commission would help provide proper coordination of Sister City activities and communication between the town and the non-profit organization.
The corporation would continue to provide support thorough fundraising, student exchange, organizing and hosting delegations and special events.
The council will also consider accepting four new pieces of public art, three of which would be slated for installation on the Avenue Plaza and the fourth would be an addition to the Fount Rushmore gallery of presidents.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt is the newest addition to the Fount Rushmore display.
The three items planned for the Avenue include Sky Totem artist Warren Cullar; Ascendo is by local artist Brian Schader; and the third piece is Interactive Sun Glasses by another local artist, Don Kenworthy.
The three items for Avenue of the Fountains are being donated by Bart Shea of Shea, Connelly Development (MorningStar and Park Plaza). The Roosevelt statue will be financed through a fundraising campaign led by Marty Brown with the Public Art Committee and the Fountain Hills Cultural and Civic Association.
The council will also be remembering retiring members of the Community Services Advisory Commission; Geoffrey Harper, Nancy Blumenstein, Danny Tancredi and Donna Yordy.
Staff, led by Finance Director Craig Rudolphy, will also be recognized for receiving the Distinguished Budget Presentation award from the Government Finance Officers Association. This is the 14th consecutive year the town has received the award.
The Town Council will meet Thursday, Jan. 7, at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public.
