She is responsible for administering the Elections Department, which conducts all national, state and county wide elections and provides support for cities, towns, school districts, special districts, and other jurisdictions. She will be addressing some of the concerns that were raised following the Presidential Preference Primary in March and what actions she and the department have taken to ensure smoother elections in the future including the upcoming Primary Election, Aug. 30 and the General Election, Nov. 8.

The Arizona Corporation Commission will be electing three new commissioners in November. Vying for the positions will be current commissioners Bob Burns and Andy Tobin. Burns, who served both in the Arizona House and the Senate including two years as Senate President, was elected as Commissioner for a four-year term beginning in January 2013.

Former AZ Speaker of the House Andy Tobin was appointed to the Commission inn 2014 replacing Commissioner Susan Bitter Smith. Former Chandler Mayor and retired Superior Court Justice Boyd Dunn and Arizona State Senator, and former gubernatorial candidate Al Melvin also are running.

The Arizona Corporation is one of only 14 elected “public utilities commissions in the country.” In addition to regulating public utilities in the state, the five member panel, whose terms are staggered, also regulate and facilitate the incorporation of businesses and organizations, regulate securities, and regulate railroad and pipeline safety.

Club meetings are open to all interested persons. Reservations are not necessary. A social period with complimentary coffee and light breakfast refreshments begins at 8:30 a.m. Following the program, an opportunity is provided for GOP officials and candidates to make brief presentations.
