Cross country soars in California meet

The local cross country team traveled a bit further than normal for a meet last week, heading all the way to Irvine, Calif., to take part in the annual Woodbridge Classic.

The Falcons have taken part in this prestigious meet for the past several seasons now and, according to Coach Todd Brecto, the 2014 trip turned out to be a positive experience for local runners.

“There were teams from all across the Southwest participating in this two-day meet,” Brecto explained.

“There were teams from all across the Southwest participating in this two-day meet,” Brecto explained.

“With over 15,000 runners, the meet was massive and the Falcons ran their fastest times of the year.”

The meet ran from Friday, Sept. 19, to Saturday, Sept. 20, with runners taking part in multiple events based on grade level.

“The whole experience was unbelievable, and [the kids] had such a great time,” Brecto added.

“The team is progressing nicely. We are getting stronger each week and should be at our prime for the sectional meet on Oct. 31.”
