Culp: Skillicorn is taking Fountain Hills down a chaotic path

Allen Skillicorn has made it clear that he won’t stop attacking, demeaning, degrading and threatening the town’s employees and residents. Recently, Skillicorn posted a photo of himself peering menacingly through the scope of a bazooka, over the caption, “I have you in my sights!” I wonder who that was about.

Skillicorn also posted an edited video of Ben Larrabee’s comments during the call to the public at the Feb. 21 council meeting. Skillicorn falsely accused Mayor Dickey of violating the open meeting law by cutting Larrabee off. Larrabee, who lives in Austin, Texas and works for Hannah Toth’s employer, Turning Point Action, was allowed to finish his speech. Larrabee’s subjects, alleged grooming and bathroom assaults, purportedly committed by members of the LGBTQI+ community, were not within the town’s jurisdiction to address or subject to open meeting law.

Skillicorn is now threatening to sue the town for violation of his First Amendment rights if the council proceeds to sanction or censure him for his aberrant conduct. This threat is as empty as Skillicorn’s promise to find a solution to our decaying roads. In Houston Community College v. Wilson, the Supreme Court found that the protections afforded by the First Amendment do not preclude a public body from sanctioning one of its members for violations of that body’s ethical rules.

Skillicorn’s ongoing and increasingly unhinged conduct threatens to bring our town government to a standstill. It is expected that most of the (March 5) council meeting will be dedicated to addressing his violations of the Code of Ethics.

We can’t continue following Skillicorn down this chaotic path. Recall elections are expensive. Join me in calling upon Skillicorn to do the right thing for the town he professes to love by resigning.
