While spoken language presents so many boundaries of national “tongue,” regional dialects and colloquialism, the cultural arts provide a source of international communication.
I’m thinking of all forms beginning with music relative to performance, composition, vocal, conducting, music therapy, national patriotic music, folk tunes, jazz and dance music as an example.
Arts and crafts encompass a huge variety of art form categories including original art, sculpture, fine furniture, basket weaving, fabric and rug weaving, jewelry, leather designs, quilting, needlepoint, crochet, architecture, glass blowing and much more individually created products of original works than I have newspaper space to identify.
The physical performance of dance is an expression of the internal emotions of the dancers as they tell a story with their art form. Successful writers provide a window of words to show a mental picture of their story.
There is much more depth that needs to be taught in our public educational system.
Museums record history of civilization, known as anthropology. We can determine the level of development by any society through the discovery of artifacts, writings, music, dance, architecture and social interaction.
Short-sighed politicians and educators make a serious mistake in their evaluation of the cultural arts when budget cuts are considered. There is a wealth of math and science in the arts that is incorporated into a pleasant dramatic experience of personal expression.
Poetry and prose of the Bard, Shakespeare, when properly and dramatically taught, affords insight to family interaction, political events, romantic love and moral lessons that are quite timeless.
Think about interpretation and comprehension when the teacher is well prepared to enlighten students.
The value of high quality education for students on all levels begins with the administrators, educators, politicians and taxpayers who must recognize the basic direction toward eliminating crime and poverty is through the brain.
