Damsel in distress

I was done setting up for the Chabad rummage sale on a recent Wednesday night (12:15 a.m.), walked to the locked front door and I smelled something awful.

I had been working hard that day and sweated a lot, but I didn’t think I could be that bad….

Before I opened the door I spotted three large javelinas not five feet from the door (thus the smell).

I was trapped! What to do? A flashlight, maybe, or something to chase them away? Luckily my cell phone did get a signal.

I called 911 and explained my dilemma. After the laughter (from both of us), the dispatcher transferred me to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies’ office in Fountain Hills.

After my second explanation and another round of laughter, she said she would send someone over to help. By this time I had the thought I might just stay for the night -- if we only had a mattress for sale.

At about 12:30 a.m. two deputies showed up and I was able to get to my car. Rescued at last!
