Congratulations to the Fountain Hills Dark Sky Association on its work to have Fountain Hills become the world’s 17th Dark Sky Community! This designation is quite an achievement. We enjoy seeing the beautiful stars made clearer by dark skies.
It is ironic, however, that on one of our two community entrances, Fountain Hills Blvd., we have a new fire station that is brightly lighted. What message does that give everyone regarding the Dark Sky designation? Shouldn’t the Town of Fountain Hills lead the way by turning off the lights at the new fire station (unless there is a safety issue)? Wouldn’t it be great if an announcement could be made at the Dark Sky Festival on March 30 that the town is serious about being Dark Sky?
