DC Bar & Grill reopens five months after storm damage

The operator of DC Bar and Grill at Desert Canyon Golf Course for the past four years, Tim Sciutto, is glad to have 2017 behind him.

The disastrous year began during a July 16 monsoon when wind slammed the patio roof into the building’s interior, activating the sprinkler system. Water flooded the restaurant for eight hours before the damage was noticed.

Sciutto said it was his first day back from vacation when an employee notified him. Once the water was removed, 50 high-powered fans dried out the building for three weeks. Water had reached the two-foot mark on the wall, “literally from one end of the restaurant to the other,” said Sciutto.

Sciutto said it was his first day back from vacation when an employee notified him. Once the water was removed, 50 high-powered fans dried out the building for three weeks. Water had reached the two-foot mark on the wall, “literally from one end of the restaurant to the other,” said Sciutto.

Operations came to a halt and the rebuilding began, taking longer than expected, said Sciutto.

A completely modernized restaurant opened Nov. 17. A wall between the dining room and bar area was removed and a counter with cell phone charging stations was installed. New flooring, lightning and repainting completed the transformation.

To earn some income during the closure, Sciutto sold Friday night take-home dinners of barbecue chicken and ribs.

Sunday buffets will return in February. The Great American Steakout, a popular seasonal offering on the last Saturday of the month, returns this month. Steaks will be grilled on the patio.
