Decisions

There have been several important national and local judicial rulings lately that have stirred up a lot of passionate feelings both for and against. I have heard a great many “I told you so” and “How could they” commentary.

I think it is important to keep in mind that judicial rulings must at least be respected as the new law of the land they are all based on logic and precedent.

Yet, they all also fall into one of these categories: A) Sound and just judgments that will stand the test of time; B) Unsound and unjust but will, in the absence of better legal interpretation and often more money and political force, remain the only constitutionally acceptable and enforceable reality; or c) Unsound and unjust and temporary.

The best decisions will probably stand the test of multiple challenges over the longest time periods.

Judicial decisions do not proclaim highest moral truth, neither do they eternally vindicate or condemn anyone.

Thoughts and words of despair and/or gloating are useless and damaging to the health of our society, our psyches and our souls. No matter what, we all still have plenty of work to do.
