Last week I received a call from Laurie, niece of Art Eldred, a 93-year-old resident veteran. Laurie was very passionate in her call. She wanted me to know how special our Fire Department is and the great kindness that they showed to her uncle.
Her Uncle Art would never have been able to make it to the ceremony at the Veterans Memorial on Memorial Day without help. A group of our firemen went to his house and picked him up in the fire truck. Besides getting him to the memorial, what an incredible ride he had with the firemen and what a thrill for him to be in the fire truck. It was so special for him that she couldn’t thank us enough for the kindness that they showed her uncle.

A group of firemen had also gone to her uncle’s house to help him with his flag to be displayed on Memorial Day. To veterans, there is nothing more important than to show their patriotism and to honor their follow veterans who died defending our freedom.
While we all know what an awesome fire department we have, the firemen and women just don’t quit surprising us as they go above and beyond.
As mayor of this great town, I want to add my special thanks to these outstanding men and women. We are so blessed to have them a part of our hometown community.
