The Town Council has approved a contract for the Fountain Hills Fire Department to purchase three new defibrillators as part of its primary equipment.
The contract is with ZOLL Medical in the amount of $94,449, including $13,500 in trade-in value for the old equipment as well as a three-year preventive maintenance agreement with the manufacturer.
Fire Chief Dave Ott told the council that the old equipment has reached the end of its useful life and the manufacturer, Phillips, no longer makes the defibrillators and is no longer able to support maintenance.

Councilman Alan Magazine asked Ott how often the equipment is used. Ott said it is a common piece of the medical equipment paramedics use and is used on every call where it is a possible heart condition.
The funding for the defibrillators is budgeted from the town’s facilities replacement fund.
Council approved the purchase on a 6-0 vote. Councilman Dennis Brown was absent.
