Denise Lydia Gay French

Denise Lydia Gay was born Nov. 8, 1960 in Sandstone, Minn. to Rodney and Gloria Gay. Together with her family, she later moved to the Mabel-Canton, Minn. area and attended Mabel-Canton Schools.

In December 1978, she married Steve Westphal. She was widowed in Jan. 1979. On July 12, 1980, she married Bruce Rosendahl and they lived in Mabel, Minn. until moving to Arizona in 1986. They later divorced.

On Sept. 4, 1999, she married Curt French. They made their home in Fountain Hills and Mesa.

On Dec. 5, 2016, she underwent lung surgery and died on Dec. 19, 2016 from complications related to that surgery.

She is survived by her husband, Curt French of Mesa; son, Steve Westphal of Fountain Hills; daughter, Heather Rosendahl (Leon Walker) and granddaughter Lauren Walker of Highland Ranch, Colo.; mother, Gloria Gay of Wabasha, Minn.; brother, Greg (Melissa) Gay of Rochester, Minn.; sister, Donna (Joel) Carlson of Wabasha, Minn.; brother, Gary (Laurie) Gay of Mason City, Iowa; sister, Dianne (Patrick) Hastings of Cave Creek; brother, Jeremy Gay of Wabasha, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by maternal and paternal grandparents, an infant son, Cole Phillip French (April 19, 1997) and her father, Rodney Gay (April 9, 1998). She worked for McDowell Mountain Elementary School in Fountain Hills.

She was laid to rest on Feb. 4, 2017 at Paradise Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Scottsdale where her son, Cole is also buried. She enjoyed camping, spending time with family and especially spending time with her granddaughter, Lauren.
