A desert wildfire was reported in the area northeast of Rio Verde on Wednesday afternoon and Tonto National Forest responded to the incident.
The fire broke out on the east side of the Verde River between Rio Verde Ranch and the Needle Rock Recreation Area.
According to Rio Verde Fire District Deputy Chief Eric Merrill, the fire was about 25 acres. Due to limited access to the area aircraft were used to disperse fire retardant to limit the fire's spread.
On Thursday morning a helicopter was being used to make water drops on the blaze, but most of the smoke had dissipated.
Merrill said Fire District officials are in contact with Tonto National Forest to monitor the fire activity. There was no immediate threat to the areas in the Fire District including Rio Verde Ranch, Tonto Verde, Rio Verde or Tegavah.
