Designation of sign free zones on Fountain Hills council agenda

Meeting Tuesday, April 1

The Fountain Hills Town Council will consider options for amending its “sign free zones” designation when it meets on Tuesday, April 1.

While state law provides for the posting of political signs within the rights-of-way without jurisdictional interference, it does provide for the establishment of “sign free zones” within the community. The sign free allowance is up to three square miles total within areas of commercial tourism, commercial resorts and hotels.

The Town of Fountain Hills has looked at resort areas, Golden Eagle and Fountain parks as well as the McDowell Mountain Preserve as areas that draw tourism in the community and has included them in sign free zones. The town council previously directed staff to revisit the map and possibly modify the zones. Three options are being presented to the council as well as the current areas.
