The Showtime series “Billions” focuses on how prejudiced federal bureaucrats abandon justice and weaponize lawfare to exert punishment against people they hate. The current judicial system, as reported by the media, is following a similar lawfare script to the “Billions” storyline. Lawfare targets are selected to fulfill a political objective, not to serve justice. Lawfare reverses justice.
“That’s witness tampering,” states the judge in his chambers. “No, that’s finesse,” retorts the DA. The DA wordsmiths the judge into recusing himself as payment for a prior debt. The Esquires of Lawfare can’t be successful without the influence of a biased judge that favors the prosecutor’s law-bending hypothesis. When hate and prejudice supersede the law, the rule of law meant to provide justice becomes the political weapon for punishment. Lawfare kills a democracy.
For the Esquires of Lawfare, justice is not their priority. Hateful and prejudicial Esquires of Lawfare circumvent and break laws to, “get their man.” Lawfare has no boundaries. Innocent casualties of lawfare are dismissed as collateral damage. The DA and his minions extol each other’s political gamesmanship in their concerted efforts to ascend to the governor’s mansion.

Lawfare prosecutors fabricate and allege crimes that do not have victims or a precedent in law. Bureaucrats willfully break the law by leaking controversial information to the press that will influence public opinion. If prosecutors can’t get their target to surrender because of public humiliation or to avoid bankruptcy due to legal expenses, the DA will find an accommodating judge and district to file their case. The bureaucrat’s egos are so large and their motives so apparent they make themselves supervillains that unwittingly fashion their lawfare target into an underdog hero.
Lawfare is a weapon that kills justice and democracy by violating established law and order precedents to apply prejudicial prosecutions.
