We are perplexed about why the supposedly non-partisan Extended Hands Food Bank would agree to host an event honoring defeated Joe Arpaio. Why would they want to “honor” someone who is under federal indictment, has broken up families, didn't investigate hundreds of child sex abuse cases and cost the county many millions of dollars in lawsuits, with more costs to come in remaining lawsuits?
In a previous article, Mr. Iverson said that someone approached him about doing it, and he agreed. The Republican Club is organizing the event and getting the speakers. It is clearly a political event, and yet they are not being charged for the use of the Community Center, even though we are constantly hearing that the Town is going broke.

In a previous article, Mr. Iverson said that someone approached him about doing it, and he agreed. The Republican Club is organizing the event and getting the speakers. It is clearly a political event, and yet they are not being charged for the use of the Community Center, even though we are constantly hearing that the Town is going broke.
In addition, Town policy states that political event fees can only be waived by the Council itself, a public vote where we can have input into how our tax dollars are diverted.
If the Republicans and the Food Bank want to honor Arpaio, let them do it and let them pay the fees. The presence of the Food Bank in this political event, with the agreement to donate any leftover money after costs, is just weird.
The Food Bank has lost our support with this stunt. We will be donating elsewhere.
