Discouraged

I am growing more and more discouraged by the lack of a serious effort to find a reliable revenue source for the town. Spending money we don’t have to turn the town into a destination city simply will not get the job done.

The swimming lagoon idea might pass in a brainstorming session where any idea is acceptable as a means to encouraging free thinking or as an adjunct to a casino. As a solution to our problems it is purely idiotic. Spending $38,000 to study the idea is worse.

Outside of the sanitary issues with a swimming lagoon adjacent to a body of treated wastewater, why drive here when there are two well-established water theme parks in the Valley with a multitude of water recreation features, many community swimming pools in Valley communities, tubing on the Salt River, plus boating and swimming in any of the several manmade lakes in the area?

I also believe, counter to Councilman Tolis’ thoughts, the costs are understated. For example, I don’t think you could staff, operate and insure the venture for $200,000 and even if you could, it would take 10,000 patrons at $20 per head to generate even that amount.
