Dishonor

Unfortunately we use past improper conduct to mitigate current inappropriate actions. We dishonor any discussion by injecting unsuitable comparisons.

Consider, an official engages in an unethical activity. To defuse the problem the party at fault brings a past unseemly behavior of someone from the other party. Using two wrongs to try to make a right. Does anyone care both are perverse and probably illegal? Even our former Secretary of State was want to say, “at this point what difference does it make?”

To take dishonor further, how about fomenting new rules and regulations that can’t stand on their own merits? Proclaiming that the way things once were are gone. The problem (their opinions) confronting us must be repaired or we will all die (sound familiar?). Remember how bovine flatulence was a part of global warming and subsequent information brought the whole global warming into question? What’re your favorites?

And maybe, most dishonorable of all, public policies designed to cause harm and dependence while being promoted as cost saving, humane, necessary, and let’s not forget “it’s your right.” We’re all familiar with the mounds of government reports. Spewing out page after page of unsuitable data and statistics.

The frequent adjustments, reformulations, omitted facts, etc. They’re nearly impossible to decipher. But, for some curious reason, citizens, think tanks, media, bureaucrats, etc. all take this garbage in and talk about it like it’s relevant. Why?

Wallowing in dishonesty and hyperbole will never get us to the truth or honorable governance. It feels like riding a carousel. Spinning round and round. Getting dizzy and disoriented. Feeling nothing is going to change or get better. Couldn’t you just puke?

Herbert Hoover said, “When there is a lack of honor in government, the morals of the whole people are poisoned.”

What’s your antidote?
