In the Fountain Hills Times of May 4, Mr. Taylor stated that we are forced to not fly our flag because foreigners find it offensive and that we are bullied to accept the illegal waving of Mexican flags and would be jailed or shot if we did the same in their country. His allegations should be based on facts and experience.
For some 25 years, I have lived in five different countries and have never observed the hostility to Americans or their flag professed by Mr. Taylor. Here in the United States, I have not heard or seen anyone objection to the flying of the American flag.
By living in multiple countries I, as well as many immigrants, am actually better able to understand this country. Conversely, anyone who has no experience living overseas does not have a basis for evaluating other countries.

The underlying tone of Mr. Taylor’s letter is that this country, founded by immigrants and populated by foreigners and their offspring, should not tolerate immigrants. Here in Fountains Hills, we observe immigrants contributing to the well-being of our community.
My wife, a “foreigner,” has greatly contributed to this country as a corporate trainer, college dean, professor for our sailors at war, serving the community as a school board member for eight years, and being a Red Cross volunteer for some 17 years.
The Red Cross recently bestowed her a meritorious service award for her work in Phoenix and throughout the nation. She was featured on the Times’ front page of April 20. She, like most “foreigners,” contributes to our country and community.
In summary, there is no basis for the hostility to foreigners and they, like our forefathers, make the country a better place to live. Diversity makes us what we are, and makes us stronger.
