In anticipation of letters questioning the accuracy of my Good Government Committee advertisements about Ginny Dickey’s mayoral candidacy, I want to offer more documentation than ad space allowed.
Regarding Ginny Dickey’s willingness to raising fees and taxes and her growing government at a time of a town revenue shortfall, she addresses adding all those new commissions and committees in her YouTube “Town Talk 4,” twenty-one minutes and thirty seconds (21:30) into it. Then at 28:31, she calls for new employees – an assistant town clerk, a procurement specialist, another code enforcer and, unbelievably, an ombudsman – in spite of an estimated half-million-dollar town operating shortfall that she admits exists.

Regarding new fees and taxes, those statements start one hour, five minutes and four seconds (1:05:04) in. That’s where Dickey says everything is on the table and specifically mentions doubling the environmental fee, which she admits she championed. Dickey also mentions, “going out again” on the property tax vote, the tax voters trounced 2-1.
Dickey also talks about renegotiating the public safety contracts and one does not fill a $500,000 operating shortfall without cutting into those services. She repeated the reference to the operating deficit and her openness to cutting public safety in the Chamber Mayoral Debate, 26:58, into part two.
The reference to Dickey not keeping children safe due to her opposition of the police using SWAT tactics was not solely based upon her picketing and protesting the police training exercise using such tactics at a closed Fountain Hills school in 2013, as reported in The Times (2/12/13). It is also based upon her, as a council member in 2014, complaining about our police using such tactics in town, reported in The Arizona Republic (9/10/14). Like many of her fellow Democrats, Ginny Dickey opposes the “militarization of the police.”
