Donald Rhoderick was 92 years old and lived in Fountain Hills for the past 15 years. He went to Heaven on Friday the morning of Nov. 29, 2013, just five days after his wife Charlotte passed away on Nov. 24, 2013.
He was born in St. Louis, Mo. on Oct. 21, 1921. He married Charlotte Rhoderick in January of 1941.
Don did not graduate high school but earned his GED when he retired so he could become a bailiff at the Coloma, Mich. court house after he retired from the Chicago Police Department.
Don first worked for Safeway Bus Lines before joining the U.S. Navy where he served for four years during World War II. After returning from the Navy he joined the Chicago Police Department and earned many honors for his service and worked his way up to burglary detective.
Don also earned his pilot’s license and flew privately for pleasure and side jobs.
Don Rhoderick is survived by his two children: Donna Kehoe, of Tonto Verde, and Darlene Dyrhaug, of Fountain Hills. He also is survived by four grandchildren: Mike and Dave Jordan, Kelly Gerard and Brooke Dyrhaug and eight great- grandchildren; Allison Jordan-Schmidt, Danny Jordan, Ryan and Makenzie Jordan, Tyler and Stephanie Gerard and Bella and Brenna Dyrhaug.
Don Rhoderick died of a broken heart and couldn’t wait to be with the love of his life, Charlotte Rhoderick. Five days apart was too many. They have united in Heaven and are dancing together and looking down on their loved ones.
Joy be with you while you stay, and peace be with you on your way.
