Fountain View Village resident Dorise Wanner celebrated her 102nd birthday on Jan. 16 with family and friends, a day before her actual birthday.

She was born the oldest child of three in Brooklyn and raised in River Edge, N.J.

At the age of 15, she met Walton, who led the young people’s group at her church. Three years later they married.

Walton’s employer, Exxon, paid for him to attend college for eight years to become a certified public accountant. Exxon encouraged employees to become active in their communities. He fulfilled three years as mayor and then became a New Jersey assemblyman.

After his retirement, they moved to Palm Beach, Fla. Walton died in 1992.

Wanner’s son, Chip, and daughter, Dale, have homes in Arizona and convinced Dorise to move closer to them. She moved three years ago to Fountain View Village.

Wanner has six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
