Dorothy (Dot) Root was born in Kane, Pa. Feb. 22, 1927. After high school, she became a beautician. Then she met the love of her life, Ken, and enjoyed 70 years of marriage.

Dot had three children. She loved motherhood and all the volunteer opportunities this included. The family moved several times and she rose to the occasion, making a new “nest” with each move.

Dot had many talents including art, ceramics, crafts, sewing, decorating and cooking. She enjoyed traveling, cruises and hiking. She was a devoted grandmother and great- grandmother. She loved children and studied early childhood development at Madonna University in Livonia, Minn. She owned and operated Livonia Little Tots Day Care for eight years.

Dot and Ken retired and relocated to Rancho Bernardo, Calif. They purchased one of the first Mail Boxes Etc. and enjoyed meeting many friends as a result. They became avid Padres season ticket holders, often tailgating with a group of friends. They loved hiking in the desert, road trips and volunteering with the Lions Club.

In 2007, they moved to Fountain Hills, continuing as Lions Club volunteers. In 2016, they moved to Lakewood, Colo. and continued to enjoy visits with family and many of the activities offered at Applewood Assisted Living.

Dot recently experienced health issues and chose hospice for her final care. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth (Ken); daughter, Lorrie; sons, Terry (Linda) and Ken Jr. (Lynda); grandsons, Brandon (Kristen) and Jason (Karen), and a great-granddaughter, Eleanor.

Private services will be held at Miramar National Cemetery at a later date.
