Ron Doornbos of Calgary, Alberta, Canada passed away June 12. Doornbos and his wife, Patti Lou, both 60, were visiting Ron’s brother and wife in Fountain Hills and were walking on a sidewalk when they were struck by an SUV at the corner of Saguaro and Palisades Boulevard. The SUV was being driven by Bashaw.

The incident claimed the lives of Patti Lou and Karen Bonta, 71, at the scene. Karen’s husband, Robert, 72, died at the hospital. The two couples did not know each other.

Ron Doornbos suffered a traumatic head injury that required multiple surgeries. He remained in a medically induced coma and was transferred in late March to Calgary to be closer to his family.
