Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Fountain Hills is partnering with the Fountain Hills Protect Our Youth Coalition for a Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Fountain Hills Town Hall.

Residents are invited to stop by to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications, no questions asked.

Proper disposal helps prevent misuse, accidental poisoning and environmental harm, according to a press release.

“When families clear out unused medications and secure those still in use, we greatly reduce the chance of youth or others in the home accessing them or accidentally taking something not meant for them,” said Tammy Bell, director of Protect Our Youth. “It’s a simple step that helps protect our homes and keep our loved ones safe. A few minutes on Saturday can make a real difference.”

What to bring

-Unused/expired pills, tablets, capsules and patches (in original containers or a clear bag)

-Liquids should be securely sealed in the original container.

-Vape pens/e-cig devices with batteries removed.

-Over-the-counter medicines.

-Pet medications

What not to bring

-Needles/sharps, thermometers, pressurized canisters, illicit substances or liquids.

Volunteers will be inside Town Hall to collect drop-offs. Protect Our Youth members will also be there to share family resources on youth substance misuse.

Stop by the coalition table to pick up a free safe storage container while supplies last, to keep medication still in use secured in the home.

On Saturday, Nov. 8, the Town of Fountain Hills and Republic Services will host the 2025 Household Hazardous Waste Event from 8 a.m. to noon at Fountain Hills High School.
