Duckro: On the matter of behaving unethically

I think we should take a close look at making choices based upon “ethics,” assuming misrepresentation/misinformation is unethical. When someone claims, “I am voting for (Ginny’s) opponent as I don’t support unethical candidates,” I have to wonder: Really?  Are you paying attention?

For instance, Gerry Friedel recently posted to social media claiming, while Ginny Dickey was on the school board, student enrollment was declining, and said she sent out factually incorrect letters about it.

Odd, though, that’s not what career teacher Linda Lawrence said (Times 9/18/24). I know, too — my son and Ginny’s sons were students while Dickey served on the school board in the 1990s. Over 500 additional students enrolled in our schools during Dickey’s two terms on the district's board, leading to the district's peak enrollment of 2,600.

While disparaging the dozens of local and regional leaders who’ve publicly endorsed Mayor Dickey, Friedel’s undeniable misinformation also insults educators, parents and support staff who brought the schools to new heights during Dickey's tenure and continue to work for our benefit. Witness the multiple approvals of bonds and overrides then, confirming communitywide confidence in Ginny Dickey. It reinforces Dickey’s subsequent election to councilmember twice and mayor three times.

By the way, Friedel also posted a photo taken by Ginny Dickey of the purple Fountain for Domestic Violence Month – on his campaign page! When challenged, he stated it was from the internet, and then posted an obviously different photo to prove it.

I think we should hold Friedel accountable for his misinformation. Those are the documented "ethical" problems.

Like many, I trust Mayor Ginny Dickey and am voting for her!
