Easter activities at Joy

Joy Christian Community Church will have several special services during this Holy Week.

On Thursday, April 2, it will celebrate what Christians call a “Maundy Thursday” service at 7 p.m.

Maundy in Latin means “command.” Jesus washed His disciples feet and then He said, “A new commandment I give you, that you love one another as I have loved you.”

“We also should stoop down and serve,” said Pastor Don Schrage.

On Good Friday, April 3, a Tennebrae Service will be held at 7 p.m. The Tennebrae service is a powerful message of what it means that the Messiah died on Good Friday, Schrage added.

There is a gradual dimming of the lights and extinguishing candles and people leave in darkness and silence. Dr. Rick Ross from Canada will help Schrage in the service.

On Easter Sunday at 9:30 a.m. the service will focus on what it means that Jesus actually overcame death by His bodily resurrection, Schrage said. The Christian faith is the only faith that believes in the physical resurrection of the body.

Joy Christian Community Church is located at 13430 N. Saguaro Blvd., next to Colors.
