Easter, museum and Duffys

As you know, Easter is late this year. It will be celebrated on Sunday, April 20.

The Ministerial Association will once again have its traditional Sunrise Service at Fountain Park on Easter morning.

We also had another tradition in the early days of the community. The Noon Kiwanis Club held an egg hunt for the children at Fountain Park on Easter Sunday morning.

After incorporation, the town took over the event and things changed. The egg hunt became the “Eggstravaganza,” and it was held on Saturday morning, the week prior to Easter, at Golden Eagle Park.

That means it is this Saturday at 9 a.m. One piece of advice: Make sure you are on time for the Eggstravaganza. What takes hours to set up, is literally over in about a minute.

-------

Incidentally, the Goyena family sponsored the Eggstravaganza for years once the town took it over.

They were successful in the real estate business, and it was a way they could give something back to the community.

The Goyenas moved to Baltimore, Md., a few years ago to go into the catering business with Joe Go’s brother. To everyone’s surprise, they attended this year’s Hall of Fame dinner. Joe Go told me they were in the process of moving back to Fountain Hills.

His wife, Carol, said she had one too many snow storms for her liking. “This is the best place to live,” said Carol. “We thought about it all the time.”

Getting back to Easter activities, if you want more to do this Friday and Saturday, the River of Time Museum is planning some good old fashioned Easter fun.

Activities will be held both days from 1 to 4 p.m.

Volunteer extraordinaire Arlie Denomme has planned all of the activities including an appearance by Fountain Hills’ own Easter bunny, Hoppy.

There will be activities for the kids including coloring pictures of scenes depicting the western area around us and making fabric-covered eggs. All items will be supplied by the museum. The kids can take them home or fasten them on a line for others viewing them that weekend. The covered eggs can either be taken home or put in a large bowl for others to see, also.

On Saturday, the Easter bunny will pose for pictures with the kids.

A parade is also planned in the Centennial Circle with the Fountain Hills Theater supplying “enhancements” for dress up. An egg hunt is also scheduled for Saturday.

-------

And one more thing about the museum…A Wine and Cheese Reception will be held at the museum on Wednesday, April 16, at 5:30 p.m.to celebrate the opening of the new Ranching Exhibit. Local cowboy artist Carlos Hadaway and Alan Pape, the museum’s resident artist, worked together to plan the renovated exhibit.

--------

A big thank you to Tom and Tina Duffy for hosting the annual Fountain of Youth Fiesta fund-raiser at their home last Friday night. The fiesta benefits the local Boys and Girls Club branch.

The event was a sell-out and I don’t have any figures on how much money was raised. But, I can tell you, it was a fun evening.
