Edward R. Stepanek

Edward R. “Ed” Stepanek, 89, of Fountain Hills, passed away Aug. 30, 2013 under Hospice of the Valley Care at the Eckstein Center in Scottsdale.

Born in Chicago, Ill., Ed grew up in the Chicago area, went on to serve in WWII in the U.S. Navy during the Asiatic-Pacific, European-African-Middle Eastern and American Theatres. He was awarded the Victory Medal.

He went on to become a lifelong electrician, having been a part of the NORAD project in Colorado Springs. He moved to Arizona in 1991 and belonged to Church of the Ascension of Fountain Hills.

He is survived by his wife, Rita A. Stepanek; daughters, Dale Louise Lane of Fountain Hills, and Janet Doris Stauffer of LaGrange, Ill.; sons, Gregory Robert of Colorado Springs, Jeffrey Edward of Wilmington, Ill. and Michael Henry of Gilbert. He is survived by 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Christine, and brother, Tony.

A memorial ceremony will be held at Messinger Mortuary Chapel of Fountain Hills at a later date.
