The response from council members was mixed, but Town Clerk Linda Mendenhall was told to prepare options and costs for future budget discussions related to electronic voting software for council meetings.
Mendenhall made an initial presentation to the council at a preliminary planning workshop held Nov. 2. She said she receives a lot of questions about how council voted on various items and said this technology would streamline the process and enhance record keeping.
In her staff report for the discussion Mendenhall stated, “The benefits of the software are that it will record the votes of each council member, take the motions and display the information for the meeting audience and viewers. The votes are all private until all members have selected their votes; this will also equalize the voting process by eliminating biases resulting from … voice votes.”
