Elizabeth Marie Klansek, RN, BS

Elizabeth Marie Klansek, RN, BS of Fountain Hills, formerly of Scranton Pa., passed away on Feb. 4, 2017 at Honor Health Hospital, Shea, Scottsdale.

Betty was married to Al Klansek for 43 years. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Skimmage) Sabo. After graduating from Central High School Scranton, she then entered the State Hospital School of Nursing, achieving her RN License.

Betty then accepted a position in the pediatrics department of the Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. After several years she returned to Scranton and accepted a position in the operating room at the Community Medical Center, as a surgical nurse. Through the years she was promoted within the department to eventually become the operating room nurse manager. She assisted in the design and development of the first ambulatory surgical suite within the hospital and in the area.

Betty retired from CMC after 40 plus years but found that she still wanted to be active. She took a position with Northeastern Eye Institute in Scranton as an OR nurse, working there for several years. Betty retired again and with Al, moved to Fountain Hills.

Once settled in Arizona, she became active in the Shepard of the Hills church and was involved in their many charitable events. She joined the bell choir playing at church services and at various functions in the area. She remained active in all those, and many other events, until the onset of her illness.

Betty is survived by her brother, Joseph Sabo and his wife, Ann Marie; her daughter, Laura Klansek Riley and her husband, William of Tampa, Fla.

She has four grandchildren, Linden Aiden Riley; Tessa Gioia Riley; Stephanie Jordan Riley; and David Heath Klansek; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death was her brother, Frank and his wife, Eileen.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb 10 at 11 a.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 16150 E. El Lago Blvd., Fountain Hills, AZ 85268, with visitation one hour prior at 10 a.m. Interment will be at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024 on Monday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m.
