Elks Lodge grows, more projects coming

Fountain Hills Elks Lodge No. 2846 recently welcomed seven new members into the fold.

It is the lodge’s ongoing objective to seek well-qualified and capable individuals to share in the many ways that Elks serve in the community.

“They will become valuable volunteers, and the personal satisfaction received for their service will provide a special reward,” said Elks Exalted Ruler Scott Logozzo.

“Many of our neighbors do not realize the vast number of programs that Elks are involved in locally.”

Some include:

*A drug awareness program designed to educate all children, regardless of age, the harm and danger resulting from the use of drugs.

*The Elks have historically been a large contributor to the Armed Forces by providing much in the way of personal products not readily available at their locations.

*Veterans also receive assistance from Elks.

*A competition is available through the lodge’s college scholarship fund to all qualified Fountain Hills seniors.

*An annual children’s Christmas shopping trip, which provides an opportunity for many children to shop for clothing, shoes, etc. followed by lunch for children and parents at the Elks Lodge; Santa also visits with gifts and goodies for each child.

*Many projects are provided assistance from the Elks National Foundation, which provides funding for all lodges on a national basis, amounting to millions of dollars.

Additionally, the Elks participate in the street cleaning program, the Thanksgiving Day Parade and the annual Oktoberfest.

The Elks are especially busy during Oktoberfest, setting up the food tent, preparing and serving food throughout the two-day event, which requires many volunteer hours.

“We have numerous other fund-raising events, including golf tournaments and rummage sales,” Logozzo added.

“We also assist the local Extended Hands Food Bank. There is something for everyone.

“These are many reasons we welcome willing new members. Fellowship and friendship are enjoyed by all. The Elks motto is, ‘Elks share, Elks share.’”
