Enough already

Enough already! What is happening to the American dream? When I was growing up you dreamed that if you worked hard, studied and went to college, you could have a better life. I worked hard, saved and paid for college, even paid off my student loan after I was discharged from the Army. Yes, I was a Vietnam era veteran and served my country. I raised a family and saved for my retirement.

Now that I am over 70 I have to take a required minimum withdrawal from those savings because the government wants to make sure I pay all the taxes before I die. But then I hear that Obamacare will eliminate over 2 million jobs and Obama says that is a good thing.

People can now have a better quality of life because they don’t have to work for insurance and can get subsidized insurance. Well, who is paying that subsidy? Taxes from my retirement savings?

The American dream appears now to be I don’t have to work (extended unemployment benefits) and let the government pay for my food (food stamps), my housing (government- subsided housing), my health insurance (Obamacare), my kids’ education (Pell Grants) and my retirement as well.

Is this the American dream we have for our future? Let the government provide because I will have a better quality of life because I don’t have to work? It’s time for everyone to take a stand if you don’t agree. Otherwise we will have the Obama dream of government subsidy, government control and eventually a failed nation dependent on others for our future.
