Once construction on the Avenue of the Fountains median is complete, and stable, the venue will be available for numerous events and activities, according to Town Manager Ken Buchanan.
Buchanan was debunking rumors that once complete the Avenue would be restricted to everyday pedestrian traffic with no small special events on the median.
“The Avenue of the Fountains medians were designed to have special events such as the Farmer’s Market and other special events,” Buchanan said.

Although the Farmer’s Market will have to be relocated for this fall while construction continues. Buchanan said he is uncertain about the future of the market because the special use permit for the existing vendor expires at the end of 2014.
There are other rumors about the Farmer’s Market and the arts vendors with it, but Buchanan said any discussion is speculation until there is a new special use permit to consider.
As for the major arts festivals in November and February, Buchanan said a beer garden and those food vendors who used a portion of the medians would no longer be permitted in those areas (see separate story).
“The majority use of the medians was for electricity and water only,” Buchanan said. “It will be used virtually in the same manner in the future except no vending within the medians will be allowed.
“All activity (for the fairs) will be on the streets since the vendors back up to the medians anyway.”
Except for a couple of lost days due to weather, the Avenue renovations are expected to be complete by the end of October.
