Local food bank opens third unit to store food and train volunteers amid rising community need

The Extended Hands Food Bank in Fountain Hills has seen a gradual uptick in both visitors and donations over the last 10 months, prompting its leadership to expand into an additional 1,500 sq. ft. unit for food storage and space for group volunteer training.

In January of this year, Extended Hands Food Bank (EHFB) clocked in approximately 4,000 food bank visitors seeking sustenance, according to Allyson Iverson, the food bank’s assistant director.

By this summer, EHFB was averaging over 5,000 visitors and by the end of October, visitors topped 5,500.
