Fairness and truth

Thank you Scott Hanavan for your recent letter.

Your questions about why unsupported “facts” continue to go unchallenged is very valid. Perhaps like me, most readers skip Dorothy’s monthly rambling, incoherent letters.

This is a mistake! This is how the Iraq war was presented to the American people, backed up with what we all now know were undocumented lies. We the people let the so called fact of “weapons of mass destruction” go unchallenged and lead to a war that killed tens of thousands of civilians and totally destabilized the entire Middle East.

Not too long ago, the readers of this paper were ask in the online poll if we thought opinion letters should be corrected or excluded when they contained verified lies or unsupported facts. The result of the poll was the readers wanted people to be able to express their opinions freely.

Before the poll and after the poll was concluded, we continue to see corrections to some letters are being made by the editor of this paper. No corrections are made to Dorothy’s unsupported opinions presented as “facts.”

What criteria are used when deciding to make corrections to readers’ opinions? Either make corrections to all incorrect opinions stated as “facts” or make no corrections. To do differently implies all opinions are factually correct.

This current policy is an insult to our newspaper and its readers.

The lies and untruths will only get worse as the Presidential election cycle draws near. One only has to look at the waste of tax dollars in the Benghazi hearings.

After wasting more than $4,000,000, the Republicans are still beating a dead horse to bring down Clinton’s poll numbers! Real Republicans won’t support this behavior any longer and are screaming these hearings are a total farce using buffoonery and horseplay.

Shame.
