Despite being up 14-7 at halftime, the Fountain Hills Falcons football team couldn't overcome a terrible third quarter and lost their first game of the season Friday evening to the Coolidge Bears.
With several miscues by the Falcons in the third, the Bears scored two touchdowns to close the quarter with a 19-14 lead. Then, on the first play of the fourth quarter, Coolidge scored once again to go up 25-14.
The Falcons did score in the fourth quarter on a Luke McDermott pass, and converted a two-point try, to narrow the gap to 25-22. Subsequent drives were unsuccessful, however, and the Bears hung on for the victory.
