“I’m really proud of the mental toughness (Skye) showed to keep pushing on a really hard day,” head coach Andrea Hall said. “Caleb led the boys team with a solid race. He had a great start and pushed the whole way through…It was a tough course, and the sun was relentless during the late morning race.”
Senior Caleb Lara led the boys in 51st place (19:14.2), but sophomores Aiden Rollins and Colby Wright weren’t far behind. The two sophomores finished side by side, with Wright taking 74th (19:54.8) and Rollins finishing 75th (19:55.2).
Senior Dylan Romans and junior Yashua Harris rounded out the Falcons team. Romans placed 84th (20:19.6) and Harris finished 110th (21:06.2) out of 173 boys.
The Falcons can punch their ticket to the state championships if they finish in the top half of teams at sectionals or have a high enough individual finish. The girls team qualified last year, and all five girls returned this year hoping to improve on their final standings.
The Division III Metro Sectionals will start at 10 a.m. at Glendale Heroes Park, 8300 W. Bethany Home Rd., Thursday, Oct. 26. Medals will be given to the top 14 finishers, and if any Falcon qualifies, they’ll compete in the state championships at Cave Creek Golf Course Saturday, Nov. 4, at 1 p.m.
