I hear the U.S. is fast becoming a nanny state. You know “government care and control from cradle to grave.”
I’ll wager that an accurate definition of nanny comes nowhere close to defining how government, media and education are applying the term.
For me, a word that more closely resembles what is being practiced as nanny care is collectivism (a select group taking control over the people). Maybe prison wardens rather than nannies.

We are no longer permitted to choose or take personal responsibility for: our own protection (gun control), feeding our children (government schools), choosing our own charitable giving (welfare), how we save, invest and spend our money (over burdensome taxes and regulations), choosing a morality for our families (separation of church and state), medical care decisions (government healthcare), fairness in how we are judged under the law (judiciary), and last but not least, what will happen on our death (estate robbing).
Please, compile your own lists. Then let’s get together. I’m sure we’ll have enough material for a book. Sorry, no book (censorship).
C. S. Lewis said: “Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies.
“The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
Feel tormented?
We all realize “handouts” aren’t free. The costs include suppression of human nature, abdication of choice, restraint of free will, omission of happiness. Do you think it’s been a fair trade?
Who actually believes that government nannies know better how we should live?
