Family history expert to speak Monday

Richard Young will be the featured speaker Monday, Oct. 12, at the monthly meeting of the Fountain Hills Chapter of the Family History Society of Arizona.

Young will discuss using the websites “findagrave” and “billiongraves.”

This is a new area for some and hopefully new insight into the use of both of these sites for all.

Young has been working with genealogy for over 40 years. He is a retired technology specialist with the federal government.

He authors several blogs, including www.familyhistorytech.com, that investigates technology and genealogy. He has taught genealogy courses at the community college level and has been a presenter at FHExpo, Rootstech 2014, and local Family History Society meetings across the greater Phoenix/Mesa area.

He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Family History Society of Arizona and the Arizona Genealogical Advisory Board.

Monday’s meeting will start 9 a.m., and the guest speaker will begin at 10 a.m.

A short meeting to make announcements and introductions followed by Deborah Kucharik, chapter member, giving a mini session on evidence analysis.

This should be a great help to all researching people in their quest to find the correct information about their ancestors.

Everyone is invited to attend, and mentors are always happy to assist beginners in family research. Bring your questions and concerns: How to begin, how to understand some of your findings, ask about genealogy programs, have you hit a brick wall?

After the meeting some members will meet at a local restaurant, and guests are invited to join them for a no-host lunch after the meeting.
