Family History Society to meet May 9
Posted
The next meeting of the Family History Society of Arizona Fountain Hills Chapter is Monday, May 9.
The meeting starts at 9 a.m. at the Community Center. Announcements, introductions, questions and comments from the members precede the speakers.
There are two speakers in May, each members of the local chapter.
Debbi Kucharik will begin at about 9:30 a.m., followed by Sherri James’ presentation at10:10 a.m.
Kucharik, working with an old genealogy chart her grandmother had done in 1922, went on to verify information and fill in the blanks.
Kucharik is past President of the Family History Society of Arizona and also served three years as secretary. She also served two years as the vice president of the FHSA. Currently she handles the local chapter’s petty cash fund.
Her presentation will cover “What to prepare before visiting a history or research library.”
The second speaker, Sherri James, has always been interested in old family photographs. She did not pursue genealogy research until the family went to Scotland and Ireland in 2001. While there, their two boys looked in every name book they came across to find the name “Kimrey.”
James does not know where the name came from, but her grandfather was born in Indiana and his father was born in North Carolina. The name changed from Kimbrough to Kimrey, but neither of those names exists in either Scotland or Ireland. James still has more work to do.
James will show how to use lulu.com to take gathered research data and put it in book form to share.
The Fountain Hills Chapter of the Family History Society of Arizona meets every month from September through May on the second Monday of each month.
Meetings, unless otherwise published, are at the Community Center. Everyone is invited to attend and mentors are always happy to assist beginners in family research.
If there is not enough time during the meeting, mentors will stay after and help with questions and concerns. Following the meeting, the group meets at a local restaurant. Visitors are invited to join the group for lunch.
