Original story: Two people died Tuesday morning as the result of a car/pedestrian accident at Saguaro and Palisades boulevards in Fountain Hills.

At about 9:30 a.m., emergency crews from Fountain Hills and the surrounding area were called to the intersection for the incident. They found four people down in the street.

According to a witness, a man in an SUV traveling northbound on Saguaro apparently lost control of his vehicle, struck the curb and traveled up onto the sidewalk before striking four people who were waiting at the intersection.

Two women died at the scene while two men were taken to the hospital.

The witness told The Times the driver of the SUV immediately got out of the vehicle and went to assist those injured. There were a lot of people walking in the park at that time of the morning and several went to help the injured until firefighters arrived.

The driver was taken into custody by Sheriff’s deputies, but as of press time it is unknown what action may be taken against the driver.

It is expected that traffic in the area will be blocked heading into the afternoon as the investigation continues.
