Fearless Kitty, trailhead topics for Council

When the Town Council meets Thursday, Sept. 1, it will consider a request for a special use permit from Fearless Kitty Cat Rescue in Fountain Hills.

If approved the permit would allow the cat rescue to relocate to a building on Avenue of the Fountains. The new property is zoned for commercial use with the C-2 designation.

The cat rescue is designated as a “kennel” for town zoning purposes, and a kennel within C-2 zoning requires the special use permit.

Fearless Kitty wants to relocate from its current site on Enterprise Drive to a 5,200 square-foot building on Avenue of the Fountains.

The Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously voted to recommend the council approve the special use permit.

At its meeting this week the council will also consider an amendment to the Adero Canyon Settlement agreement between the town and MCO Properties.

The proposed change is related to the construction of the McDowell Mountain Preserve Trailhead. MCO has agreed to provide 12,000 cubic yards of material to be used for fill at the trailhead site. In return, the town will not require MCO to provide temporary utilities to the trailhead location.

The council will hear a presentation on the town Tourism Program and will consider adoption of a five-year Tourism Strategic Plan.

The strategic plan was developed in consultation with the town manager and the Chamber of Commerce.

The council will also be considering the appointment of four individuals to the Planning and Zoning Commission.

As part of its consent agenda the council is to approve a cooperative purchase agreement with Vincon Engineering Construction in the amount of $49,300 for curb repair and sidewalk ramp modifications.

The Town Council will meet Thursday, Sept. 1, at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at Town Hall. The meeting is open to the public, and a public hearing will be held on the Fearless Kitty special use permit application.

Prior to the regular session the council will be holding a special meeting beginning at 5 p.m. to hear presentations and discussion related to Fountain Lake water quality and fountain operations.
