Festival opens to public Friday

The Chinese Lantern and Folk Festival opens with a reception for lantern sponsors, media, dignitaries and organizers at 5 tonight (Thursday).

The public is invited to view the display for the first time from 3 to 10 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for children between the ages of 5 and 12. Admission is free for youngsters under 5 years old. The first-of-its kind event in Arizona includes 23 Chinese lanterns, animated displays, Tai Chi and Kung Fu demonstrations, specialty food, photo opportunity to wear Chinese traditional costumes and native dancing.
