Sheriff’s deputies stopped a motorist on Shea and Palisades boulevards early Saturday morning, July 4, for having a headlight out and no taillights.
Deputies learned from a passenger in the car that he believed they hit a person on the Beeline Highway just south of Shea. When asked why they didn’t stop the passenger said they were searching for a cell phone signal to make a call.
Deputies reported the driver of the car appeared to be in a state of shock and had difficulty providing paperwork and did not respond to questions.

Officers from Fort McDowell PD and Salt River PD went to the location described by the passenger and located a male subject down in the road deceased.
“He just jumped out in front of us,” the passenger reportedly told deputies several times.
The northbound Beeline highway was closed between Gilbert Road and Shea Boulevard for about 7 hours while DPS investigated the incident.
