Mayor Linda Kavanagh opened the sixth annual Fountain Hills Oktoberfest on Friday night with the famous “O Zapft is” (It’s been tapped) following the great opening performance of the Fountain Hills High School marching band.
Visitors in record attendance enjoyed the Oktoberfest traditions with continuous entertainment on two stages in perfect weather and the best location in the Valley. Over 100 volunteers, including members from many local service organizations, gave their best during the two days to top all previous events yet.
Two bands and the Dierdorf exchange students all flown in direct from Germany added to the 200-year-old tradition that started in Bavaria in 1810.

So much local talent rounded out the entertainment. The food, including the foot-long brats, authentic apple strudel, warm pretzels and the mouth-watering Warsteiner beer selections satisfied the most sophisticated taste buds.
Six months planning, team work, the support of our sponsors and visitors from the entire valley made this event another great success in Fountain Hills. My heartfelt thanks go to everyone who played a part, large or small, to to help make this a fun, safe and enjoyable family event in Fountain Hills.
Proceeds from the event, after all the bills are paid, will benefit many local charities. If you missed it, mark your calendar for the last weekend in September next year, same time, same place. It’s great to be part of this wonderful community.
