Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, former Mayor Jay Schlum and Leona Johnson, a member of the public relations committee of the National Federation of Republican Women, are attending the Republican National Convention this week in Cleveland, Ohio.
Arpaio is an elected delegate. Earlier in the month, Arpaio said no one had approached him to speak on behalf of Donald Trump, the presumptive nominee, at the convention.
When Trump visited Fountain Park on March 19, Arpaio addressed the crowd before Trump took the podium.

Schlum was elected as an alternate delegate at the state GOP convention in April. It is his first time in attendance at a Republican National Convention. His son, Tim, accompanied him as an official guest.
If six delegates ahead of Schlum drop out and do not attend, his official status would change from alternative to delegate.
“As an alternate, I will still get to do everything the delegates do short of the actual voting for the nominee, vice president and party platform,” said Schlum in a posted social media blog. “The tradition, camaraderie, and the chance to be part of one of the most interesting presidential elections throughout history is sure to be a once in a lifetime experience.”
Tim Schlum served on the staff of Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign and now is communications director for Congressional candidate David VanAssche in Michigan.
Schlum flew into Detroit, where he met Tim and they toured Jay’s hometown of Royal Oak, Mich., and West Bloomfield Township, Mich., where he spent his early years from birth to age 12. They also visited relatives in and around the North West suburbs of Detroit. They drove together to Cleveland.
Before leaving, Schlum said he planned to post daily on his Facebook page.
Johnson is there with the national women’s group campaign recreational vehicle, Rosie, a red, white and blue motor coach that visited key electoral states on its way to Cleveland.
The purpose of the tour was to return a Republican president by registering Republican-leaning women to vote and rallying communities and Republican women’s club across the country.
Democratic delegates
No one from Fountain Hills is attending the Democratic convention ibn Philadelphia July 25-28.
Fountain Hills Democrats spokesman Dave Long said Brion Neeley, Legislative District 23 chair Brion Neeley, Janice Eng and Sue Castner are delegates. Castner is an at-large delegate; Neeley and Eng are representing CD 6.
